Oshkosh Defense, a sector of Oshkosh Corporation, has been awarded a significant $89 million order by the U.S. Army Contracting Command – Detroit Arsenal (ACC-DTA) to bolster the service’s logistics modernization. This award, issued under the Family of Heavy Tactical Vehicles (FHTV) V contract, is for the production of new Palletized Load System (PLS) A2 vehicles, along with necessary kits and installation services.
The PLS A2 is a cornerstone of the U.S. Army’s modernization strategy, specifically designed to enhance sustainment capabilities for multi-domain operations. In an era of dispersed battlefields and contested supply lines, the platform introduces critical advanced technologies. Its by-wire electronic controls are a fundamental enabler for autonomous operation, allowing for future robotic and follower-vehicle applications. Furthermore, integrated active safety systems provide increased protection and operational efficiency for Soldiers navigating complex and high-threat environments.
A key feature of the PLS A2 is its open architecture, which is engineered to support rapid future technology insertions. This ensures the vehicle can evolve in direct alignment with the Army’s long-term transformation priorities, preventing obsolescence.
Pat Williams, Chief Programs Officer for Oshkosh Defense, stated, “This award underscores our commitment to partnering with the Army to modernize the heavy tactical fleet quickly and at scale. Together, we are delivering next-generation capabilities that keep Soldiers safer for today’s missions while providing a foundation to enable the fleet for the future fight.”
The FHTV V contract vehicle, which also includes the Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck (HEMTT) A4, allows the Army to leverage common militarized commercial components. This approach significantly lowers lifecycle costs and streamlines the integration of both new and recapitalized variants. The recapitalization process is a force-multiplier, enabling the Army to rapidly modernize existing fleet vehicles and accelerate the delivery of critical, state-of-the-art capabilities to Soldiers at the tactical edge. The FHTV V contract provides a flexible procurement framework for the Army through August 2029.
