ArianeGgroup and Sabca Sign Major Supply Contract for Ariane 6 Operational Phase

by Jesmitha

In a significant move to secure Europe’s autonomous access to space, ArianeGroup, the Franco-German leader in space technologies, has signed a major new supply contract with Belgian aerospace supplier Sabca. The agreement, formalized in Brussels, marks a crucial step for the operational phase of the Ariane 6 heavy-lift launcher, ensuring the industrial ramp-up for the years ahead. This contract solidifies a long-standing partnership between the two companies, building on Sabca’s pivotal role in previous Ariane programmes.

The core of this strategic collaboration focuses on the supply of essential components for the new launcher’s propulsion system. Specifically, Sabca will manufacture and deliver nozzle activation systems for the main engines. These critical systems are destined for the Vulcain 2.1 engine on the main stage and the Vinci engine on the upper stage, equipping Ariane 6 flight models from number 16 through to 42. This volume underscores the commitment to a sustained and high-rate production cadence for the operational phase.

By selecting Sabca as a key industrial partner, ArianeGroup is leveraging proven expertise to guarantee the reliability and performance of Europe’s next-generation launch vehicle. This contract not only reinforces the industrial supply chain but also highlights the vital contribution of European expertise, with Sabca’s Belgian capabilities playing a central role. The collaboration is a direct response to the need for a robust and competitive European launcher ecosystem, ensuring that Ariane 6 remains a cornerstone for launching institutional and commercial payloads. This partnership is a testament to the collaborative spirit driving European space ambitions forward, securing independent and reliable access to space for the continent.
