Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, in partnership with Archer Aviation, has announced plans to establish the UAE’s first hospital-based vertiport. This initiative will provide direct eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) aircraft access to the renowned medical facility, aiming to revolutionize transportation for patients and medical logistics. The partnership focuses on dramatically reducing travel times, enabling journeys from the hospital to key locations in a matter of minutes instead of hours.
The operations will utilize Archer’s Midnight aircraft, an electric vehicle designed to carry up to four passengers with significantly less noise and lower emissions than traditional helicopters. The companies are exploring dual use cases, including non-emergency passenger transport for medical tourism and, critically, time-sensitive organ transport for the hospital’s thriving transplant program. This project involves upgrading the hospital’s existing helipad to create a hybrid vertiport, a facility certified for both conventional helicopters and eVTOL aircraft.
This venture is a key part of Archer’s planned commercial operations launch in Abu Dhabi and leverages the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) regulatory framework for hybrid vertiports. Following an earlier approval for a vertiport at the Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal, this hospital project demonstrates the rapid development of a city-wide advanced air mobility ecosystem. Officials from both organizations highlighted that this emission-free transport mode aligns with strategic sustainability goals while enhancing patient-centered care and fast logistics. The network vision aims to connect vital pillars of the city, improving access to world-class healthcare.
