The Czech Special Forces formalised a significant equipment upgrade , signing a contract for 18 HMT Extenda high-mobility vehicles from UK-based Supacat. The signing ceremony, hosted by British Ambassador Matt Field and Defence Attaché Colonel Jonny Kitson at the British Embassy, underscored the deepening defence partnership between the United Kingdom and the Czech Republic.
The contract marks a major strategic milestone for Supacat and its Czech industrial partner, LLP, not only in solidifying a key international sale but also in potentially opening doors to further opportunities across Europe. The deal directly supports the enhancement of the Czech military’s special operations capabilities with cutting-edge, adaptable technology.
Central to the contract is the innovative design of the HMT Extenda platform. Its defining feature is a unique modularity that allows the vehicle to be rapidly converted from a standard 4×4 configuration into a 6×6, or vice-versa, to suit specific mission profiles. This is achieved by fitting or removing a self-contained third axle module. Coupled with a variable-height air suspension system, this adaptability ensures the Extenda can match the terrain performance and payload capacity of larger dedicated platforms while offering unparalleled flexibility. The vehicle’s superstructure is also modular, enabling quick reconfiguration for different roles, from troop transport to fire support or communications.
This procurement represents a tangible strengthening of UK-Czech defence industrial ties. By collaborating with local partner LLP, Supacat ensures in-country support and expertise, fostering a long-term strategic relationship beyond a simple equipment sale. The presence of senior British diplomatic and defence figures at the signing highlights the importance London places on this growing security partnership within the NATO framework.
For the Czech Special Forces, the introduction of the HMT Extenda fleet will provide a transformative increase in operational mobility and versatility. The vehicles’ ability to be tailored for diverse missions—from long-range reconnaissance to direct action—ensures that commanders have the right tool for the task, enhancing the force’s overall readiness and effectiveness in an evolving security landscape.
