FN America, LLC has been awarded a $2 million U.S. Army development contract to advance its Precision Grenadier System (PGS) prototype. The program centers on the FN Multi-purpose Tactical Launcher 30mm (MTL-30™), a next-generation soldier weapon system designed to provide squads with dramatically increased lethality and precision over legacy grenade launchers.
Designed and manufactured in the U.S., the FN MTL-30 is a soldier-portable, semi-automatic grenade launcher firing 30mm medium-velocity ammunition. It enables a flat trajectory for engaging targets at extended ranges beyond 500 meters with more effective payloads. The system is lightweight at just over 10 pounds, compact, and features ambidextrous controls with an M4-style telescoping stock for enhanced maneuverability and user-familiarity. Its modular rail system allows for the mounting of visual augmentation systems and other devices.
Key capabilities highlighted by FN include engaging in close-quarter combat, defeating targets in defilade (protected positions), and countering unmanned aerial systems (UAS). The launcher can also be networked with remote weapon stations to create a multi-layered defense. Following extensive testing, FN’s prototype successfully met the Department of Defense’s key performance criteria, delivering a user-friendly, soft-shooting system with low-felt recoil for rapid target engagement. The company emphasizes that the design utilizes state-of-the-art manufacturing techniques, ensuring the weapon is cost-effective, easily manufacturable, and logistically supportable.
FN executives stated this innovative solution is a U.S. Government priority that could radically change future battlefield strategies by providing new capabilities at the squad level. The contract award underscores FN’s role as a major supplier of small arms to the U.S. military.
