Hensoldt Expands Production Capacitys

by Jesmitha

In response to significant demand and spatial constraints, sensor specialist HENSOLDT is executing a major expansion of its production capacity by establishing a new external site near its core location in Ulm. The company has signed a lease agreement for a substantial industrial hall, which will be specifically converted for series production. This strategic move involves a major investment of a mid-double-digit million euro amount, underscoring its importance to the company’s future.

The primary focus of the new facility will be the high-volume series production of advanced radars for critical defence areas, specifically air defence and drone defence systems. The ambitious goal is to manufacture approximately 1,000 radars per year from 2027 onwards. This represents a substantial increase in the production volume for these key products, which are urgently needed by the German Armed Forces and other main customers. According to HENSOLDT CFO Christian Ladurner, the existing site in Ulm had reached the limits of its available space due to a massive expansion over the past two years. He emphasized that this new solution is crucial for a rapid expansion of capacity, which is necessary and without alternative to safeguard HENSOLDT’s ability to act and meet critical requirements under the current geopolitical structures.

This expansion complements, rather than replaces, the established core competence of the Ulm site. The original location will continue to be the central hub for the development and production of radars, electronic warfare systems, and electronic components, employing approximately 3,000 people. The new production site is a direct and necessary response to capacity limits, enabling HENSOLDT to fulfill pressing defence contracts and solidify its industrial base.
