Rocket Lab Corporation has successfully conducted its 74th Electron mission, deploying a sophisticated synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite for the Institute for Q-shu Pioneers of Space, (iQPS). Named ‘The Nation God Navigates,’ the launch lifted off from Rocket Lab Launch Complex 1 in New Zealand, precisely delivering the QPS-SAR-14 satellite, nicknamed YACHIHOKO-I, into its designated 575km circular Earth orbit. This mission underscores Rocket Lab’s pivotal role as a global leader in launch services and space systems.
This launch represents the sixth dedicated mission Rocket Lab has flown for iQPS, cementing its status as the most prolific launcher for the company’s expanding Earth-imaging constellation. The success of this and previous missions directly led to the recent signing of an additional multi-launch agreement, with Electron scheduled to launch six more dedicated iQPS satellites to further build out the constellation in low Earth orbit.
Rocket Lab founder and CEO, Sir Peter Beck, emphasized that success in the space industry is built on precision and repeatability. He stated that this mission demonstrates the pinpoint accuracy essential for customers to reliably grow their constellations and expressed gratitude for iQPS’s continued trust. With six seamless deployments completed, the Electron vehicle is now prepared for the next six missions under the new agreement.
Echoing this sentiment, iQPS CEO, Dr. Shunsuke Onishi, celebrated the successful deployment of QPS-SAR-14 ‘YACHIHOKO-I’. He noted this achievement as the company’s fifth successful launch this year, a milestone that reflects steady technological advancement and team growth. Dr. Onishi thanked the Electron team and expressed that this success brings iQPS closer to its vision of near real-time Earth observation, aiming to deliver greater value to society.
This mission was Electron’s 16th launch in 2025, matching the Company’s current record high for yearly launches. With more Electron missions scheduled before the end of the year, Rocket Lab is on track for another record-breaking year. This launch cadence occurs concurrently as the Company prepares for the highly anticipated debut launch of its medium-lift reusable rocket, Neutron, marking a significant period of growth and innovation.
