In a major strategic move within the aerospace aftermarket, Satair, an Airbus company, has announced a definitive agreement to acquire Unical Aviation and its subsidiary, ecube. This acquisition marks a significant milestone for Satair, profoundly reinforcing its commitment to delivering comprehensive and integrated aftermarket solutions while making a substantial expansion in the Used Serviceable Material (USM) sector.
The transaction brings under Satair’s umbrella Unical’s established global network, which includes seven operational sites and offices across North America, Spain, and the United Kingdom. This addition strategically extends Satair’s global footprint, incorporating a combined headcount of 413 employees and projected 2024 revenues of $298 million. Unical is a renowned global supplier of aircraft parts and components, while ecube provides expert services in aircraft storage, disassembly, and transition. This powerful combination is set to dramatically enhance Satair’s aircraft lifecycle management capabilities.
Upon finalization, which is expected in early 2026 pending customary regulatory approvals, the expertise and infrastructure of Unical and ecube will be pivotal. They will complement and synergize with the existing capabilities of VAS Aero Services, a Satair subsidiary acquired in 2022. Together, this strengthened portfolio will solidify Satair’s position as a reliable provider of end-to-end USM solutions, including engine and multi-fleet support, and end-of-life services for aircraft.
According to Richard Stoddart, CEO of Satair and Head of Airbus Material Services, the acquisition is fundamentally about enhancing sustainable practices and maximizing asset value for customers. He emphasized that prolonging the lifespan of material resources is the most effective way to establish responsible material practices, benefiting both the industry’s long-term future and its customers.
Sharon Green, CEO of Unical, expressed delight at joining the Satair group, describing the partnership as a pivotal moment. She confirmed that Unical and ecube are a natural match for Satair’s ambitions, particularly in the areas of services growth, material availability, and sustainability. This union is poised to unlock significant value for all customers, employees, and stakeholders involved, creating a more robust and service-oriented aerospace support network.
