Army Conducts Successful Soldier-Led Flight Test Series of LM’s PrSM

by Jesmitha

In a significant advancement for the U.S. Army’s long-range precision fires modernization, soldiers have successfully conducted a flight test series of Lockheed Martin’s Precision Strike Missile (PrSM). This soldier-led evaluation at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico, marks a critical step in certifying the system’s mission readiness and integrating it into the Army’s existing artillery arsenal.

The September tests were a notable achievement, as soldiers executed launches from both the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) and the M270A2 Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS). This was the first time multiple PrSMs were fired from both pods of the M270A2 launcher, comprehensively validating the missile’s compatibility and the soldiers’ proficiency with the new system on all relevant platforms. The PrSM met all success criteria, demonstrating exceptional lethality, accuracy, and an extended range capability designed to neutralize targets beyond 400 kilometers.

This milestone underscores the successful collaboration and innovative development approach between the U.S. Army and Lockheed Martin, which prioritizes speed and agility. The PrSM is engineered as a next-generation, long-range precision strike weapon, providing the warfighter with cutting-edge target neutralization capabilities. Its design incorporates an open systems architecture and a modular design, ensuring maximum affordability and flexibility for future growth and technological upgrades. By leveraging digital technologies, Lockheed Martin has streamlined the development, testing, and fielding process, accelerating the delivery of this critical 21st Century Security solution.

The successful soldier-led flight test series ultimately enables a more lethal and credible deterrent force, enhancing the Army’s ability to defend the homeland and project power. The PrSM represents a transformative step in artillery modernization, providing proven, long-range precision strike from the highly mobile and battle-tested HIMARS and MLRS platforms.
