Firefly Aerospace Announces Strategic Acquisition of SciTec

by Jesmitha

Firefly Aerospace, a leading space and defense company, has announced a definitive agreement to acquire SciTec, Inc., a specialist in advanced national security technologies, for approximately $855 million. The deal comprises $300 million in cash and $555 million in Firefly shares.

This strategic acquisition is designed to significantly advance Firefly’s capabilities in supporting critical defense missions. By integrating SciTec’s expertise, Firefly gains a substantial operational advantage, particularly for its Golden Dome initiative. SciTec brings mission-proven strengths in key areas including missile warning, tracking, and defense, as well as intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR). The company also adds deep capabilities in space domain awareness, autonomous command and control, and AI-enabled systems for low latency operations. These competencies will enhance Firefly’s existing portfolio of launch, lunar, and in-space services with sophisticated software analytics, remote sensing, and multi-phenomenology data processing.

SciTec, which generated $164 million in revenue for the twelve months ending June 30, 2025, is a key contractor for national security agencies. It was recently awarded a $259 million contract by the U.S. Space Force to support the FORGE framework, strengthening missile warning and tracking missions. The cultural fit between the two rapid-innovation companies was cited as a key driver for the deal.

Following the acquisition, expected to close by year-end 2025 pending regulatory approvals, SciTec will operate as a Firefly subsidiary. SciTec CEO Jim Lisowski will report directly to Firefly CEO Jason Kim.
