Orange is the New Black: easyJet Again Entrusts Long-term Base Maintenance Work to Lufthansa Technik Sofia

by Jesmitha

At the MRO Europe trade fair in London, easyJet and Lufthansa Technik announced a significant seven-year extension of their base maintenance agreement. The contract solidifies the role of Lufthansa Technik Sofia as a primary provider of heavy base maintenance for the airline’s extensive fleet of Airbus A320 family aircraft. This long-term partnership ensures that each winter season, four dedicated overhaul bays at the Bulgarian facility will be exclusively reserved for easyJet’s operational needs.

The renewed agreement covers comprehensive maintenance checks for the entire A320ceo and A320neo family jets operated under easyJet’s various Air Operator Certificates (AOCs), including easyJet UK, easyJet Switzerland, and easyJet Europe. This heavy maintenance work in Sofia perfectly complements the recurring light base maintenance checks that easyJet’s fleet already undergoes at Lufthansa Technik Milan, creating a seamless and robust support system for the low-cost carrier’s expanding operations.

EasyJet’s Director of Engineering and Maintenance, Brendan McConnellogue, emphasized that Lufthansa Technik Sofia is a major part of their outsourced strategy, praising the brilliant teamwork that meets the airline’s ever-growing needs each winter. The relationship, which began with standalone checks in 2015, has flourished over the past decade, resulting in over 500 successful maintenance events. A Lufthansa Technik senior director described the extension as a testament to a true partnership built on delivering safe, reliable aircraft on-time and on budget, consistently meeting high standards for safety and punctuality. This extension underscores the deep trust and successful collaboration between the two companies, ensuring easyJet’s signature orange livery will remain a fixture in Sofia for many winters to come.
