Avanti Communications has significantly expanded its strategic partnership with Türksat, Turkey’s national satellite operator, securing vital new capacity to address the critical connectivity gap in Southern Africa. This enhanced collaboration, building on a relationship established in 2019, will leverage the high-throughput capabilities of the Türksat 5B satellite to deliver high-quality satellite services across the region.
The move is a direct response to the surging demand for reliable connectivity in Southern Africa, where terrestrial infrastructure often fails to reach remote or underserved communities and enterprises. By combining Avanti’s established on-the-ground expertise across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa with Türksat’s advanced satellite resources, the partnership is designed to be a catalyst for digital inclusion and economic growth.
Debbie Mavis, Director at Avanti Communications, highlighted the partnership’s strategic importance: “This expansion with Türksat is central to our mission of connecting the unconnected. It empowers us to immediately scale our services and meet the accelerating demand in Southern Africa, ensuring businesses and communities are no longer left behind in the digital economy.”
Dr. Selman Demirel, VP of Satellite Operations for Türksat, emphasised the mutual benefits, stating, “South Africa and the wider region represent a pivotal growth frontier for our international strategy. Avanti’s profound local market knowledge and strong customer relationships provide the perfect channel to deploy our capacity effectively, making this a synergistic alliance.”
The additional capacity fortifies Avanti’s recently launched ‘Avanti Everywhere’ initiative—a suite of Flexible GEO services designed for agility and resilience. This enhanced portfolio ensures that enterprise clients, from mining and agriculture to telecommunications and government, can access robust, scalable connectivity solutions tailored to dynamic needs.
Ultimately, this deepened alliance transcends a simple capacity agreement. It is engineered to foster strategic inter-operator partnerships within South Africa’s telecom sector. By offering local providers seamless access to the combined scale and technical capabilities of two leading satellite operators, Avanti and Türksat are laying a foundational infrastructure layer. This collaboration is poised to stimulate national and regional development, turning connectivity from a challenge into a driver of opportunity, innovation, and inclusive progress across Southern Africa.
