On November 5, Textron Aviationās Cessna Citation Ascend achieved a major milestone by receiving its FAA type certification, with entry into service expected later this year. The aircraft successfully completed a rigorous flight test program, with two test articles accumulating over 1,000 flight hours. This next-generation business jet combines improved performance with a luxurious cabin, designed based on direct customer feedback.
Propelled by two fuel-efficient Pratt & Whitney Canada PW545D engines, the Ascend delivers a maximum speed of 441 knots and a maximum range of 1,940 nautical miles. The cockpit is a completely new design, centered on the Garmin G5000 avionics suite. This system features three large 14-inch displays and includes autothrottle technology to reduce pilot workload. It also comes equipped with synthetic vision technology and a satellite transceiver for cockpit communications. An optional second data radio and CPDLC capability support more direct routing between North America and Europe.
The cabin is designed for passenger comfort and productivity, featuring a flat floor that provides generous legroom and can be configured for up to 12 passengers. An advanced acoustic treatment ensures a quiet interior, allowing for easy conversation. The cabin also features all-new windows that are approximately 15% larger, offering more natural light. For convenience, passengers have access to numerous USB charging ports, universal outlets, and first-in-class wireless phone charging. Cabin features like lighting, temperature, and shades can be controlled wirelessly.
To keep everyone connected, the aircraft comes standard with GoGo Avance L3 Max Wi-Fi, with even higher-speed options available. Operational efficiency is further enhanced by the unattended Honeywell RE100 XL Auxiliary Power Unit, which manages cabin temperatures with less fuel and noise. Building on the legacy of the popular 560XL series, the Citation Ascend offers customers a versatile and flexible platform for their travel missions.
