“The recent changes of rules and regulations regarding seaplane operations in India presents a significant opportunity for De Havilland Canada and the aviation industry as a whole. These changes are designed to streamline the establishment and operation of seaplane services, facilitating growth and enhancing connectivity throughout the country.

I would like to extend my gratitude to the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA), the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), and all the operators who have collaborated to bring about these significant regulatory changes. This collective effort will serve as a catalyst for the much-anticipated growth of seaplane operations in India. With these reforms in place, India is truly poised for a new era of seaplane expansion.”

These changes have already created significant interest among operators eager to venture into the seaplane sector. With these reforms in place, India is truly poised for a new era of seaplane expansion.”

How many Sea Plane operators we can expect in 2-3 years in India?

“Given the recent regulatory relaxations and the growing interest in seaplane operations, we anticipate a significant increase in the number of operators entering this sector over the next 2 to 3 years. Currently, there is a burgeoning interest among various aviation stakeholders, including regional airlines and private operators, who are keen to explore the unique opportunities presented by seaplane services.

While it is challenging to provide an exact number, we could realistically see the emergence of several new operators, potentially ranging from 5 to 10 players, depending on market dynamics and regional demand. This influx will not only enhance competition but also contribute to improved connectivity in remote and underserved areas of India. The government’s support for the UDAAN scheme and the recent regulatory changes are expected to further accelerate this growth, making the seaplane sector a vital component of India’s aviation landscape.”

How do you think udaan scheme will help to promote Sea Plane Operations in India?

The UDAAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme is a transformative initiative aimed at enhancing regional air connectivity in India, and it plays a crucial role in promoting seaplane operations across the country. By significantly lowering the barriers to entry for air travel, UDAAN is creating a favorable environment for the growth of seaplane services.

Firstly, the UDAAN scheme subsidizes routes that connect underserved and unserved airports, making it economically viable for operators to introduce seaplane services in remote regions. This initiative encourages airlines to explore new markets, including coastal areas and remote islands, where traditional aircraft might not be as efficient or feasible. With government support, we can expect an increase in awarded seaplane routes that will enhance connectivity and accessibility for travelers.

Secondly, the emphasis on affordable air travel aligns perfectly with the operational model of seaplanes. By providing subsidies for air travel, UDAAN allows operators to offer competitive pricing, making seaplane travel an attractive option for both tourists and local commuters. This not only boosts passenger numbers but also supports the economic viability of seaplane services in the long term.

Moreover, the UDAAN scheme has garnered significant attention from state governments, which are eager to promote tourism and local development. As states collaborate with airlines to establish seaplane routes, we can expect a more coordinated approach to developing regional connectivity, leading to greater investment in infrastructure and facilities that support seaplane operations.

Twin Otter offers low operating cost to facilitate the UDAAN scheme for affordable air service. On a typical 1-hour flight, the Twin Otter burns half the amount of fuel and overall 40% less operating costs compared to its closest twin-engine competitor which is not even certified for water operation

Lastly, the positive regulatory environment fostered by the UDAAN scheme is likely to attract more players to the market. As interest in seaplane operations grows, we can anticipate a flourishing ecosystem of operators, suppliers, and service providers, all working together to enhance regional air travel.

summary, the UDAAN scheme serves as a catalyst for the growth of seaplane operations in India, making air travel more accessible and promoting economic development across the country. As we embrace these opportunities, I am excited to see how seaplane services will transform regional connectivity and tourism in India.
